NEHEMY JEAN

Born on July 22, 1931 in Limbe, Nehemy joined the "Centre D'Art " in April 1947 where he worked under Dieudonne Cedor as a primitive painter. He became the secretary of the Haitian Artists Association in 1950 and joined Cedor, L. Price, and Max Pinchinat at the Hall of Plastic Arts. He moved to new York in 1954 where he studied painting at the Art Student league and anatomy at Columbia University. In 1956, with J. Gabriel, Roland Dorcely, Cedor and Luckner Lazare, he co-founded "Galerie Brochette". He won a scholarship from "UNESCO" and moved to Brazil in 1958 where he worked with Portineau. Nehemy has also taught art at "L'atelier", owned and operated his own art Gallery on his return to Haiti. Nehemy has exhibited in the USA, Haiti and Europe. His paintings are very rare and almost unavailable.
